The 2012 Santa Fe Renaissance Fair needs you! Last year's Fair generated awareness and funds to support the work of two invaluable non-profit organizations, Open Hands and El Rancho de las Golondrinas.
Volunteers are a vital part of the Fair. Last year hundreds of volunteers worked many hours before and during the Fair at a variety of fun and exciting jobs. Without their enthusiastic help the Fair would not have been possible.
Volunteer shifts are approximately 5 hours long and there is one morning shift and one afternoon shift. More flexible scheduling is possible if you are a member of a game team. You are welcome to enjoy the fair before or after your shift. You will also receive a voucher for a free lunch.
Volunteer orientation will be held during the week of September 17th – 21st at Las Golondrinas. You need only attend one 2-hour training session and several will be available to choose from. Further details about the training sessions will be sent to you in early September. It is essential that you attend orientation, especially if you are a first year volunteer, as this is when you will receive your job specific assignments and information packet.

Recruit family, friends and coworkers to join you in running a game or activity for a full day or all weekend. This is the most flexible way to volunteer because you can set whatever shift schedule works best for your team. It is also the most valuable contribution you can make because it relieves us from more detailed volunteer scheduling for that game. Game teams typically have 4 to 8 members, depending on the game you are running. If you are short a few team members we may be able to add some from our individual game crew volunteers.
We also encourage businesses and clubs to organize a game team. This is great fun and a good bonding experience for your group (much cheaper than those corporate retreats). Sign up now so we can acknowledge your organization's participation in our promotional material.
Collect game tokens and help people play a game.
Help kids redeem tokens for prizes.
Hawk T-Shirts, posters, raffle tickets and more by being an enthusiastic salesperson.
Be an outgoing costumed representative of the fair. Greet people at the front gate, wander the grounds answering questions and interacting with patrons. If you have your own costume that is a great bonus! We do have some costume resources available and, depending on interest, may conduct some simple classes on being a faire character.
Be willing to do any job or task, depending on Fair needs. We will not ask you to be a wandering character unless you want to.
There is a lot to do to prepare for the fair. We promote it at various events; have a float in the Historical Hysterical Parade; hold work parties for construction, painting and crafting. Let us know in the comments below if you'd like to participate in any of these activities.
